HOSPITAL IN WHITTIER TO RECEIVE A FIVE-STAR RATING BY FEDERAL AGENCY

CMS Awards Whittier Hospital Medical Center Five Stars for Quality

WHITTIER, Calif. July 26, 2023 - Whittier Hospital Medical Center has received a five-star rating by the
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest rating approved by the federal agency
and the only hospital to receive the prestigious rating in Whittier. This is the third consecutive year
Whittier Hospital has received a Five-Star rating.
Whittier Hospital is among just 10.4% of hospitals nationwide to receive Five Stars—the highest possible
score—out of 4,654 Medicare-certified hospitals rated. The National average is 3 Stars. The overall
rating is based on how well a hospital performs across different areas of quality, such as treating heart
attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates, and safety of care.

“Our entire team is proud of this exceptional accomplishment.” Said Mary Anne Monje, Chief Executive
Officer. “It is an honor to hold a Five-Star rating from CMS and I am grateful for the continued dedication
of our staff to make our patients and communities healthy and safe.”

Star ratings were created by CMS to give you an impartial view of the quality of the Medicare-certified
hospitals available in your area. Each year, after an intense review process by CMS, hospitals are rated
on a scale of 1 to 5 Stars, with 1 being Poor and 5 being Excellent. Whittier Hospital Medical Center
received a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars for 2023.
