Q. How long does an artificial joint last?
A. Most studies show that a new joint lasts for 20 years in 90% of patients, though this varies depending on factors such as age, weight and activity level.

Q. Will there be pain after surgery?
A. As with any surgery, especially one that involves a weight bearing joint such as a knee or hip, there will be some pain following surgery and during recovery. Our anesthesiologists and surgeons work together, using the latest pain management therapies to manage the pain. We suggest you discuss pain management options with your surgeon if you have specific concerns.

Q. How long does recovery typically take?
A. Most patients stay in the hospital 2-3 days. You should be able to walk comfortably with a walker or cane before discharge. Many people are able to start driving in about 4-6 weeks and resume recreational activities within 6-12 weeks after surgery. Most people can return to work after 6-8 weeks depending on the type of job.
