We're a Baby-Friendly Hospital!

The birth of a new baby is a precious event. At San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, we believe that the best beginning starts with the bond between mother and baby (and family). Our commitment to bonding and breastfeeding has earned us the designation as a Baby-Friendly hospital. This prestigious international award sponsored by the World Health Organization and UNICEF recognizes San Gabriel Valley Medical Center for the optimal care provided to mothers and babies.

Maternity Services

The staff of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center's Women's Pavilion has only one goal: to provide you with caring and compassionate service in a comfortable, safe environment.

At SGVMC, we understand that every woman has her own personal expectations for her birth experience. We work as a team, through our family-centered approach to care, to exceed your expectations and provide you with a lifetime of wonderful memories of your baby's birth. We even celebrate each delivery with the sweet tune of Brahm's Lullaby played over our public address system. We appreciate the opportunity to share this joyous occasion with our new mothers.

Some of the features of the Women's Pavilion Maternity Service include:

Labor-Delivery-Recovery Suites: These beautifully furnished and decorated suites allow you and your labor coach to remain in one room during all phases of the birthing process. Each suite includes a television, private shower, and a sleep chair.

Cesarean Delivery Surgical Suites: Fully-equipped for cesarean deliveries, these suites are located within the Women's Pavilion. This allows you and your physician the comfort of knowing that if a cesarean delivery is needed, the surgical suites and our highly trained staff will be ready.

Postpartum Rooms: After the delivery of your baby, you will be cared for by our nursing staffs who are experts in the care of new mothers and their infants. Our Postpartum Unit provides you with a comfortable environment that prepares you for your transition home with your new baby. We encourage rooming-in so that you will have the opportunity to get to know your little one in an intimate, nurturing environment. Our nurses will provide you with personal instruction on how to take care of yourself and your new baby. Discharge classes are also offered on the unit to provide additional information on baby care. Family members are welcomed to attend these classes.

Breastfeeding Support: We believe that breastfeeding is best for babies and has many benefits for mothers, too. You will receive the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding your baby.

Celebration Meal: It is an honor for us to be part of the birth of your baby and we want to celebrate with you! Each new mother and her partner are treated to a celebration meal before being discharged from the hospital. It is our way of saying "congratulations" and thank you for letting us be a part of this joyous occasion.

Maternity Tour: Our Maternity Tour is designed for expectant parents to get acquainted with the hospital before the delivery. If you choose to do so, you may complete pre-registration for the hospital. To join our hospital tour, please call (626) 457-3242 to make reservations. Click here for Maternity Tour schedule.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Sometimes infants require specialized care due to medical conditions, including premature delivery. Our neonatologists (physicians who specialize in treating infants) and specially trained nurses are available to care for infants born prematurely or with medical conditions requiring specialized care. Our Newborn Intensive Care Unit, conveniently located within the Women's Pavilion, is equipped with the latest medical technology to assist physicians and nurses in the care of infants. Respiratory therapists, diagnostic imaging technicians, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals are also available to provide care.
